MacMillan, Sobanski & Todd, LLC is pleased to announce that J. Matthew Buchanan and Timothy Van Tuinen have each become equity partners in the firm. MST is the largest law firm in northwest Ohio dedicated exclusively to all aspects of intellectual property law and related litigation. The firm has seven (7) partners and a total of 18 attorneys that specialize in intellectual property law, including patent, trademark, copyright, and other aspects of IP law.
Mr. Buchanan and Mr. Van Tuinen joined the firm last year when they merged their prior firm, Buchanan Van Tuinen LLC, with MST.
Mr. Buchanan has practiced IP law for more than twenty years. He received his Juris Doctor cum laude from the University of Toledo after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from The Ohio State University and a Master of Science degree in Microbiology and Immunology from the Medical College of Ohio, now the University of Toledo. Mr. Buchanan worked in IP firms in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Chicago prior to returning home to form his own firm, which merged with MST last year.
Mr. Buchanan represents several clients in the medical device industry on patent matters relating to various technologies, including minimally invasive access devices and procedures, long term implantable devices, and imaging and navigation systems. Matt also represents clients in connection with a variety of other technologies and industries, including, diagnostics, entertainment, and sports. He also represents several professional photographers on copyright infringement matters, including litigation.
Mr. Van Tuinen earned both his Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toledo. He has practiced IP law for more than thirteen years and worked in IP firms in Cleveland and Toledo. Mr. Van Tuinen represents clients that span the entrepreneurial spectrum, including start-ups and large corporations. His practice includes representing several clients in the medical device industry on patent and trademark matters, restaurants seeking protection and enforcement of their services marks, and professional photographers.
